HISTORY

History of the Global Federation of Direct Selling Associations (GFDSA)

Uniting Nations. Elevating Standards. Empowering People.

The Global Federation of Direct Selling Associations (GFDSA) was officially established in 2019 as a visionary response to the evolving landscape of the global direct selling industry. Born out of a collective aspiration to create a more inclusive, transparent, and ethically governed international framework, GFDSA was founded by a coalition of progressive and high-performing national associations from Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

These four pioneering countries recognized the growing need for a federation to uplift regional and domestic direct-selling associations, prioritize ethical leadership, and advance socio-economic development through responsible entrepreneurship. With that shared vision, GFDSA was launched as an independent international platform designed to empower people, protect consumers, and elevate industry standards — across all regions and economic levels.

From its inception, GFDSA set itself apart from traditional models by adopting a non-monopolistic, multilateral structure, where all member associations — regardless of market size — have an equal voice. Rather than focusing solely on global multinationals, GFDSA strongly emphasizes recognizing and supporting domestic companies, ensuring they are represented, supported, and celebrated within the global direct-selling ecosystem.

Since 2019, GFDSA has rapidly grown into a respected international federation, bringing Regional Direct Selling Associations (RDSAs) under one ethical and cooperative umbrella. It has established the GFDSA World Code of Ethics, launched global educational and regulatory advocacy programs, and pioneered socio-economic impact research, consumer protection, youth empowerment, and sustainability governance initiatives.

Today, GFDSA continues to expand its global footprint, serving as a guiding force and ethical compass for the direct selling industry. It is committed to shaping a future where direct selling is recognized as a powerful, inclusive, and legitimate engine of economic opportunity and community transformation worldwide.
