- Historic Launch of GFDSA Marks a New Era in Global Direct Selling Leadership Founding Nations Unite in Kuala Lumpur to Establish the Global Federation of Direct Selling Associations
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — 2019
- A new chapter in the evolution of the global direct selling industry was officially written during the 29th Anniversary celebration of the Malaysian Direct Distribution Association (MDDA), as representatives from four pioneering nations — Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Taiwan — came together to launch the Global Federation of Direct Selling Associations (GFDSA).
- The historic signing ceremony occurred in the presence of the then Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, along with esteemed dignitaries and leaders from the direct selling community across Asia. The event underscored the collective vision to foster a more inclusive, transparent, and ethical global ecosystem for direct selling.
- GFDSA was officially established to unify national and regional direct-selling associations, providing a collaborative platform representing local companies, domestic entrepreneurs, and global brands. The founding members signed a joint cooperation agreement with a mission centered on ethical governance, socio-economic empowerment, and global recognition, solidifying their shared commitment to industry transformation and international collaboration.
- "This launch is not just the birth of a federation — it's the beginning of a global movement where every direct selling voice, big or small, has a place at the table," said the Founder & Charter President Dato' Sri Dr. Barani Karunakaran during the ceremony.
- GFDSA distinguishes itself from traditional structures by promoting non-monopolistic leadership, emphasizing regional empowerment, and championing ethical entrepreneurship. Its formation marks a timely and strategic shift in industry leadership, aligning with increasing global demand for regulatory transparency, consumer protection, and sustainable business practices.
- The 2019 launch also served as a powerful example of how cross-border cooperation can drive long-term value for industry players and consumers. Ministerial leadership's presence and multi-nation participation gave the event symbolic and strategic weight, affirming GFDSA's role as a credible and future-focused global institution.
- As GFDSA continues to grow, its foundation—laid by Malaysia, India, Indonesia, and Taiwan—remains a testament to the strength of shared values and the power of a unified global vision.
